About N.E.R.D.

The Neurotechnology Ethics ResearchTopic & Development (NERD) lab, led by Dr. Francis J. Lane, is an interdisciplinary team of researchers working to understand participant experiences in clinical research involving implantable prosthetic devices. This research is being conducted in order to develop standardized ethical guidelines and procedures in future research, including informed consent, recruitment, and participant rights and safeguards. The NERD lab believes that as implantable technology and prosthetic devices become more widely available, understanding the factors that influence an individual's decision to obtain such a device will become increasingly important. Our research seeks to provide a framework for Institutional Review Boards and Ethics committees to address important issues related to human subjects research and to educate potential consumers about their rights as a research participant.
